When I was a little girl I would play chess with my dad … we used to sit in our living room in these two chairs facing each other and play for hours. Little did I know the impact this one game would have on the rest of my life. I learned strategy, vision, patience, calculated risk taking, adaptability, resilience, and empowerment … that queen is a damn powerhouse!
In the last 5+ years I’ve been having many “eyes wide open” moments … you know where you can’t unsee things, they change you for better or worse. I started to look back on those chess playing days and realized how every piece on that board represents a part of who we are and what we face.
Life is damn chessboard after all.

The pawns? So many of them. They’re the everyday moves—the routines, the grind, the risks we take even when the reward looks small. But don’t forget, a pawn can transform if it survives the board. Just like us, when we endure, we become something greater. The resilience of a pawn is immeasurable.
The knights? That’s the unexpected plot twists. The zig when life tells you to zag. Sometimes the only way forward is sideways. The calculated risks of these movers can make or break the board.
The bishops? Faith, intuition, and that inner voice that cuts across the noise, reminding you that not all paths are straight but still lead you to where you need to go. The determination and steadfast of a bishop is necessary to get to where you are headed.
The rooks? That’s stability. The foundation. The people and structures that keep you grounded, moving you forward with strength and purpose. Without them we would float right off the board.
The king? That’s your life itself—fragile, finite, the one thing everything else revolves around protecting. This guy ♥️
And then there’s the queen.
The most powerful piece on the board. She moves freely, commands presence, and shifts the entire game. The queen is YOU—your voice, your choices, your power, your resilience. When she rises, the whole game changes.
Life is about strategy, yes, but it’s also about courage. Knowing when to sacrifice, when to protect, when to wait, when to strike and when to get the hell out of your own way. And most of all, it’s about realizing that no matter where you start on the board, you have the power to change the game … you are in fact the game changer.
I used to give that title to others in my life and the realized none of them would have changed the game if I didn’t let them move their pieces towards me.
Remember all those piece are just mirrors for you, your journey and how far have come … you are now the queen of this chess board
… act accordingly! 👑
xoxo Gee 💋
